Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Manbii ("we", "our", "us") is a civic reporting platform operating in Ghana. Our app allows citizens to report community issues such as potholes, power cuts, sanitation problems, and safety hazards.
2. Data we collect
- Phone number — used to create and authenticate your account via one-time passcode (OTP).
- Display name and city — optional profile information you choose to provide.
- Location data — the GPS coordinates of each report you submit, and optionally your home location for nearby-report notifications.
- Photos — images you attach to reports, stored securely and only shown after moderation approval.
- Device push token — to send you notifications about reports near you or updates to your own reports.
- Report content — category, description, and whether you chose to report anonymously.
3. How we use your data
- To authenticate you and manage your account.
- To display approved community reports on the map.
- To send you push notifications about newly published reports near you, if you opt in to nearby-incident alerts.
- To enforce rate limits and moderation policies that protect the community.
- To improve the app based on aggregated, anonymised usage patterns.
4. Anonymous reporting
When you submit a report with the "Report anonymously" toggle enabled, your display name is not shown to other users on the map. Your phone number and account remain linked to the report in our database for moderation and rate-limiting purposes, but are never surfaced publicly.
To further protect your identity, the coordinates of anonymous reports are offset by a deterministic random amount (up to approximately 120 metres) before being shown on the public web map. This makes it harder to infer where you live or work from the location of a single report. The original precise coordinates remain available to our moderation team for review.
5. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- Supabase — our cloud database and storage provider, processing data on servers within the EU (Frankfurt, eu-central-1) under GDPR-compliant terms.
- Expo Push Service — delivers push notifications via platform-standard APNs (iOS, when available) and FCM (Android) channels.
- Published reports — content you submit and that is approved by moderation is visible to anyone using the Manbii app or web map. This is the point of the platform.
We do not currently have any automated integration with authorities or third-party dashboards. If that changes, we will update this policy and notify existing users before the change takes effect.
6. Data retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, the following are permanently removed: your profile (phone number, display name, home location), all photos you uploaded, your push tokens, your authentication credentials, and all reports you submitted — whether published, under review, or rejected. Deletion takes effect within seconds of submitting the request.
Aggregated, fully anonymised metrics (such as total report counts per category per district) may be retained for analytics and may outlive your account, but they do not contain any information that can identify you.
7. Your rights (Ghana DPA 2012)
Under Ghana's Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Object to processing of your data.
- Have your data deleted — use the "Delete Account" option in the app or visit our account deletion page.

8. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Photos are stored in a private bucket and served only via short-lived signed URLs after moderation approval. We apply row-level security to prevent unauthorised data access.
9. Children
Manbii is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
